Baby Beehinds Printed finally arrived, and more promotions for October'10 and Photo Contest update

Baby Beehinds Limited Edition Printed Diapers has FINALLY arrived!! *Grinning* Just collected from the custom yesterday, havent even got the time to sort the diapers yet, and it's not uploaded yet in the store. But I know a lot of you has been waiting for this, so I cant wait to send out the news too, haha! So because of that, I've decided to extend the contest to 7th November 2010. So there's another 3 weeks for you to send in your entries. So be sure to take the chance and send in your lil one's pictures ok? And Thank You so much for those who had sent their entries. All pictures are lovely, and I'm sure it will be tough for me and the Cloth Diaper Company to choose the winners.

And just to make sure everyone got this right. All entries will stand a chance to win 1 Wahmies All Day and Regular Wet Bag that get the most like in our Face Book fan page. And how to do that? Simply share your entries to your facebook page via our fan page where we uplaoded all entries according to diaper brands. October Store Updates

Time flies, and we're now at October already! October is a meaningful month for me personally. As mentioned in previous blog post that we're preparing to open up our retail shop, and I'm going to rush everything and hopefully able to launch officially by this month. Besides that, October is my husband's birthday and our Anniversary (both marriage and "couple" :P). So how can I not share the love with all of you right? So apart of the Photo Contest that is running now, we will have another give away soon at Cloth Diaper Malaysia. So stay tune for that!

Finally Happy Heiny's One Size Pocket in Brand New prints has arrived!! Although the cost is higher, but we're maintaining the same price as other prints. The BIG thing that happened to My Cheeky Boo!

Dear all,

we would like to share a BIG news that we've been preparing since early last month. And the BIG news is .......................................... My Cheeky Boo will have a baby retail shop / show room in Kota Kinabalu! Yay!!! I hope you all (especially KK customers) are happy cause I am really really excited for this! :D

And in case any KK customers are wondering, the location of the shop will be at Central Shopping Plaza, Kepayan Ridge. Well, it's not really a strategy place cause it's not located in the middle of city, and not in the big shopping mall, but because it's quite near to where I'm staying and working, I thought it's much easier for me to drop by often. And most of all, the main reason of opening a retail shop is I hope to have more people aware about Cloth Diapers, and frankly not all mommies know to do online shopping, so in order to let them to know more about cloth diapers and see the real thing in life, I decided to open up a shop.

Currently I'm not so sure yet if it's going to be a daily open business shop or a show room that is open by appointment as I haven't find the right person to look after the shop since I work full time. But anyhow, we have yet to set the exact date to launch the shop as some preparation is still in progress. But I will send another update if the shop is officially launched and if the shop is to open on daily basis or by appointment.

BUT before the official launch, I will be running 2 contest at a time in conjunction of this great news. 1st is Photo Contest, which will be host and run by me. While the 2nd one is a give away that could be involving pictures too, which we decided to let Cloth Diaper Malaysia to host it for us. We will be updating the details in seperate post real soon. So look out for it!

It's been a while since we last update our blog. So sorry for the long silence, things have been very hectic lately, and am not feeling well these 2 days. But anyhow, this is a short updates in our store.

Previously, we had discontinued this cloth diaper in our store due to some issue with the former distributor. After a new distributor was appointed last month, we're more happy to bring back one of our most popular and best selling diaper - Rumparooz!!!

Rumparooz is one of the best one size pocket diaper available in the market. It's unique double leg gusset is designed to hold the most watery poo possible, especially for newborn babies. Currently we had stocked in all printed diapers in both aplix and snaps, which are :

Doesn't the name sounds yummy? So are the colours! And all new bacth of Rocky Mountain Diapers will come with 1 regular microfiber insert. New Arrival For July 2010

It's been a while that I dint update this blog.

Thousand apology for that as I was pretty much occupied with my full time job, and also I'm in the mid of preparation to move house. So little time and so much to do.

Anyhow, we have new arrival on few products this month as followed :

NEW ARRIVAL

BambooLite Cloth Diapers
BambooLite is a Malaysian brand cloth diapers who mainly focus in producing organic cloth diapers and accessories. After doing research, we found that the quality is as good as those imported one. *Malaysia Boleh*. Currently we only stocked the BambooLite CM-TrueFit Fitted Premium as I wish to provide another option for customer who have heavy wetter babies but doesn't required that much as Baby Beehinds Night Nappy. But we will soon stock in the other cloth diapers of Bamboolite, so stay tune ya.

Rock N Baby Boutique - Minky Blankets

Yes, we finally have them in store! As we all know, minky is a luxurious fabric. They are super soft on our skin. I had one of this blanket for my son and I love to use it when we went for a movie at the cinema or outing. As it keeps my son warm when we're in air-conditioned area. It's a ideal blanket if your baby is sleeping in air-conditioned room.

Currently we only stock the standard stroller blanket which is measure 20x20. But I've ordered some 30x30 and 40x60 for myself and 2 customers who requested for it (You know who you are). If you would like to order one too, feel free to send me an email, and I'll give you the price. And you can even opt to embroid the blanket with your baby's name!

Autumnz - Cloth Diapers
Autumnz cloth diapers has come with new prints which is the Starry prints and Twinkle prints that comes in few colours. And I heard from the manufacturer that they had improved the sewing. So another Malaysia Boleh brand. :) And I think Autumnz diapers is also good for those who would like to give a try with cloth diapers since it's one of the most affordable diapers available on the market.

Autumnz - Nursing Wear/Nursing Lingerie
Autumnz Belly Band and Autumnz Panties is now available at our store. I highly recommend Autumnz Panties as it's made with bamboo that is silky soft and also eco-friendly. I personally tried them before bring in them and it's really comfy. It comes with 2 colours which is nude and black. I've gave away some to friends and family to try out, so if the size you want is not in stock, no worry, the other batch is on their way. Do check back again next week. ;)

Autumnz Breastfeed Accessories
We've restocked the Autumnz Nursing Tea and Breastmilk storage bag. But there is slight changes with the breastmilk storage bag. They no longer come in a box of 50 bags, but a box of 25 bags now. Also they are now with DOUBLE ZIPPER top for better leak preotection and of course still BPA free.

We've restocked some products from the Cloth Diaper Company, which is Wahmies Multi Purpose Wipes, Wahmies All Day Wetbag, and also some Rocky Mountain Diapers.

I've been using Wahmies Multi Purpose wipes for more than 2 years now. So far, after trying few other wipe brands, I can say Wahmies wipes is the best of all! Cause the quality is great, and price is affordable. Unlike other wipes, although uses the same material - soft cotton flannel / sherpa, they do fade and get thinned faster compare to Wahmies wipes. So even I've been using mine for more than 2 years, they are all still look good! And 2 dozen is really not enough provided the yummy prints they have. :P

Unfortunately, we received news from Cloth Diaper Company that the price for wipes has increased due to the increase price for the fabric. So the MRSP is now USD2 per wipe where previously is USD1.25. Having said so, for the new batch of wipes, the retail price will now Rm7.50 instead of Rm6. But for the old batch of wipes, the price will remain while stock last. So do grab a few before they're gone.

As some of you may know that I'm currently expecting my second child. So I do feel tired and exhausted easily nowadays, especially besides running MyCheekyBoo, I am also a full time working mother (FTWM).

Therefore with immediate effect, our delivery schedule will now as follow :

Delivery on weekend is not available.

For Poslaju order, I will post on daily basis after payment received, except Saturday. E.g If you paid for your order on Monday, I will post your order on Tuesday. But if you pay your order on Friday, your order will only send out on coming Monday.

As for registered mail order, I will post them within 48 hours after payment received. Meaning to say, if you pay your order on Monday, I will either post them on Tuesday or latest by Wednesday depends if I am able to drop by to the Post Office.

The reason I provide registered mail as a shipping options is, besides of cost saving for customers, I do go to town often where I can drop by to the nearest post office to send out your order. But because I'm expecting right now, so the chances to go to town will be lesser than before. So I do not want to rush myself to the post office as it's time consuming and tiring too.

So please take note and do read our Store Policy before proceeding in shopping.

Yay, Northern Essence Natural Products has arrived! I personally have been using some of their products before like the Natural Vapor Rub and Natural Diaper Rash Salve which I really really love. Besides of it's made of all natural ingredients, and having a very light scent, it's great and safe to use on cloth diapers!

In this world, you can see different people with different attitude. Honestly, no one is perfect. Every one has flaw in theirself, it can be outside the look, or inside the heart. Having said so, doesnt mean when a person doesnt goes to church every Sunday to worship, he or she is a bad person. Or when a person doing charity is a good person. As God will only keep you in his heart, when you have him in yours. Moments ago, my colleague says when a person do charity and letting the whole world know, they just want the fame or they did/say nasty things and that's why they want to do charity to covered what they've done.

I admit, I have flaw in myself, well, I'm just normal human being just like everyone else. But I try not to have an evil heart by thinking bad of someone or evil mouth to talk bad about some one. Especially when I do not know this person very close. But amazingly, this person seems to be a predictor, cause she seems to know about everything. Cause she mentioned that THE WHOLE WORLD is BITCHING about me. That's interesting to me. Cause I dint know that even my parents, my husband dislike me. LOL! And when she says so, she thought no one is talking about her?

About products, I'm taking this woolies from her - SnugglePants because the owner Ashley had an agreement with her that she will only sell wholesale to her. So she suggested me to get directly from her. Because I really like Ashley's creations, so I took from her. From there I already feel weird about this person, because the way she do her business is weird. She put the price some at almost her cost price, and some extremely high. Funny thing is she ever says to me that most her margin is only 20%, and unlike me and others reseller who have profit margin of 30 %- 40%, trust me, some snuggle pants she is having more than 40% margin. Anyway, I ever asked her why she put her price this way, she told me because she had pledge to donate 20% from her profit to Tzu Ji, so for the low price items, she wont have to donate them, instead to just take the money for restocking. Well, to me it's like cheating, what for you pledge that case? And even after you donate, I believe left over still enought for you to restock since not all of your profit goes to charity.

And I think she likes to be exaggerate/lie. Cause she posted on her Face Book Fan Page that Ashley of Snuggle Pants refuse to do wholesale with me because I'm weird and rude. So feeling unfair as I never say anything rude to Ashley, I straight away contacted Ashley to clear this matter. And as I guess, Ashley did not mentioned such things about me, and the only reason she is not willing to do wholesale with me is because she had agreement with this seller. And Ashley says will asked her to remove such statement in her fan page. So when I checked today, it's gone. So obviously she is saying something that is not true. Just to get some sympathy I guess? And along with that statement, she says she heard my estore is not doing too well, and that's why she wanted to help me. Now, excuse me, cause I would like to LOL! Okay, may be my store isnt that special, cause I sell most already well known diaper brands, and my sales isnt moving fast like hers, but if I'm not doing well, how can I manage to run MyCheekyBoo for almost 1 year?

And oops, I called her FREAK, yes, my bad mouth. Seriously, my first time meeting such reseller like her. Well, no doubt, she is bringing so many gorgeous stuff in her store. And sometimes, check at her price, so affordable. I mean affordable price is good to buyers, I mean everyone (includes myself) love to buy good quality items at affordable price right. But once a senior reseller told me to be considerate about other people's business (when you sell the same thing as others). So having said so, I think it's resonable if she can tell me she is doing sales (it's 20% off!, Like I said some of her pants is more than 40% margin that's why she can give such bargain.) for the Snuggle Pants, since I took those pants from her although we have no agreement. Cause I have a pants just like hers which she selling at Rm135, I'm selling at Rm130, different colour but almost same pattern, and because 1 of my customer booked it, so when I saw she doing such bargain, I dont feel good because I feel bad to my customer who booked the pants. As the price is so far different. I do not want my customer thought I'm taking advantage since the other seller can give sales at 20% off.

Enough said, I'm will not selling Snuggle Pants anymore after I cleared my current stock. Cause I have enough with this person. And I still have some money for 1 Snuggle Pants with her. I asked for refund but she did not reply/pay me back. And she is 'nice' cause when I says she is a freak she answered me "yea at least I'm a freak and my store is selling, like yours got so many flies". So bless her with her mouth and heart. Guess she will needs to do more charity.

Customer, Please be considerate

Lately I received A LOT of RESERVED but UNPAID orders.

Some customers contacted me or placed an order, they asked a lot of questions regarding the item(S) they're interested. As a seller, I'm more happy to answer questions/enquiries. And standing at a customer's side, I think it's totally alright for a customer to ask before they purchase, as they have the rights to do so. But what I cant really stand is when they had CONFIRM the order and asked me to reserved the item(s) for them, and PROMISE to make payment by a particular date. As stated in my store policy, I will only hold orders for 3 days. But because I want my customers to be happy shopping with us and I understand sometimes when our budget is not enough and you really like something, so occasionally I do hold orders for more than 3 days. But at the end, after more than 2 weeks of reservation, there were no payment made. And that's not the worst part, the worst part to me is when I try to contact them, (in case they forgot their order or they have any difficulties) by email, they will never reply. By phone, they picked up once (guess because they dint know my phone number), and once I told them I'm Bonnie from MyCheekyBoo, guess what? They will either keep quiet (I've got no choice to hang up), and when I call back again, they off their phone. So what do you feel is you're me?

When things like this happened, not only it caused inconvenience to me because I have to cancel order and re-edit my inventory to make sure it's taly, and also the possibility of me losing sales. See, when I reserved item(s) for customer A, I consider it sold although no payment is made but based on trust worthy, so when there is another interested buyer who would like to purchase, I would turn down as I already reserved for customer A. So when suddenly customer A did not pay for the order, it means I've lose 1 sales. It's difficult for us seller to contact the interested buyer already, as we already inform them the item is sold.

So I would very much appreciate customers to be more considerate when you shop at my store or any other estores too. If you have made a reservation, then please do not make any sudden change or simply cancel your order. Or else, please do not place order or make any reservation. Do understand I'm just running small business, so I hope customers appreciate my effort in trying to make them happy.

WASHING METHOD :-

Starting an estore means alot of things to consider, especially when it comes to options and decision. There is so many wonderful products that I wish I could carry on My Cheeky Boo. But budget wise, I know I could not bring all of them in one time. So what I can is do, to do step by step. And to make your own estore listed on the manufacter's website (either International or local) is not as easy as some of you thought. Some requires a certain amount purchases before you can actually be listed.

So after My Cheeky Boo is launched for about 6 months now, I'm so excited and happy when I saw that our estore is appeared on the International and local retailer list. It feels like a gift and worth all my sweat, my time and hard work for my estore. For some people, this might be nothing and sounds easy, (well, if you have a strong financial support, it might be easy), but for me, this means HUGE. It's like an encouragement and support to makes me continue in what I'm passionate about.

I apologise for the long silence in our blog since October. There is pretty much things going on. I start my life as a FTWM again after being a WAHM for almost half year. I pretty enjoy my life at the moment as I enjoy my current job much but at the same time I still can share my passionate with cloth diapering through My Cheeky Boo.

So just a quick update of what we have stocked from past month.

Some Changes....

After becoming a full time SAHM & part time WAHM for almost 6 months, I'm happy to share that I'm now a FTWM again! ^_^ But dont worry, My Cheeky Boo is still operating as usual (WAHM is still my dream job), but there will be some changes on our delivery schedule, as well as some delivery fees.

Previously, I only arrange posting on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday due to we're staying away from town. But effective from 1st November (we still need some time to arrange with the courier service), delivery via courier service will be available the next working day after payment cleared for all orders! But for posting via registered mail will only available on every Saturday (expect the first).

As well for KK customers, COD (cash on delivery) is available at no extra charges when you pick up your order from me. But we're regret that we will have to charge a minima delivery fee of Rm3 for those who required us to deliver the order to you. As my schedule will be tight after becoming a FTWM, so hope all of you can understand. _________________________________________________________________________

Cloth Menstrual Pads

For the ladies, mommas, sisters, as well to those gentlemen that cares about the woman in their life...

To some of you who have yet to know about Cloth Pads, I believe you might wonder what is that? Some of you might ask why do we (female) have to use that when we got the disposable type which is so convenience?

What is Cloth Menstrual Pads?

Cloth menstrual pads, also known as "mama pads", are a reusable alternative to disposable sanitary pads. Generally they are made from layers of absorbent natural fibers (such as cotton, bamboo or hemp) which are worn by a woman while she is menstruating, for post-partum bleeding, general daily discharge, urinary incontinence or other times when light to heavy absorbency is required. After use, they are washed, dried and then reused. When cared for properly, they may last for 5 to 10 years, depending on how often they are used and how they are cared for.

Why Use Cloth Menstrual Pads?

Just like cloth diapers, cloth pads have the similar benifits.

Health Benefits

Cloth Menstrual Pads are made with all natural fibre such as bamboo, cotton and hemp, which means that they do not contain any chemical like disposable. Yes! Totally CHEMICAL FREE! Unlike disposable, cloth pads giving you a more breathable and comfortable menstruating process.

This is an important note to be concern for the female. As we know that our genital tissue is very sensitive and delicate, and those chemical that is used in produce those disposable pads is harmful to our body and will cause irriation and discomfort. And studies shows that the chemical in your disposable pads can cause you cervical cancer or other complications, isnt it scary?

Environmental and economical benefits

If a woman uses an average of 5 disposable pads a day, that works out to be about 35 a month, or 420 a year. If an average woman menstruates from around 12 years until around 40, that's 28 years worth of menstruation (not including time spent pregnant or breastfeeding, where menstruation would stop). Which is around 11,760 pads used in that time, at a cost of around 30c per pad. Multiply that by all the disposable pad wearing women of the world and that is a huge amount of disposable pads that will remain in Landfill for many generations to come.

Many cloth pads use Hemp or bamboo as the absorbent core, which uses less water and pesticides to grow than Cotton or Wood pulp. While washing cloth pads does consume water, this is lessened if they are washed in a machine load of other items rather than on their own. They can even be rinsed out in the shower, using water that would normally just run off down the drain. The rinse water (and washing water if a garden friendly Detergent is used) makes a great Fertilizer, so this can be used to water the garden.

Most disposable pads are made from bleached Wood pulp, and most have a plastic waterproof layer (if not comprised mainly of plastics) with a plastic coated strip to cover the adhesive. Pads and tampons are usually individually wrapped in plastic and then most of these come packaged in a plastic bag or a plastic wrapped box. Cloth pads can be composted, where most disposable pads cannot be.

Personal Benefits

Some super absorbent disposable pads may use compounds such as Polymethylacrylate to enhance absorbency. The use of latex, adhesives, fragrances, and plastics in disposable pads can lead to irritations in women with sensitivities to this. Women with sensitive skin/allergies may find cloth pads to be more comfortable against their skin, particularly cloth pads made of undyed organic cotton.

Additionally, the plastic barrier of a disposable pad breeds odors, but cloth pads, many of which do not require any waterproof barrier at all, do not smell at all. Yes, now you know that why your menses smell stink. It's not your blood, it's the chemical!

Often women feel like menstruation is something embarrassing shameful and something to hide. Disposable sanitary product manufacturers have been known to contribute to this by advertising the advantages of quieter packaging on their products. Women who choose reusable menstrual products often comment on how they feel more relaxed with their menstruation, and some even look forward to it. Being able to choose from a selection of pads (the style, fabrics), and having something that looks and feels funky and fun can help turning menstruation from the unpleasant to something almost exciting. :)

How To Wash Your Cloth Pads?

Isnt washing Cloth Pads difficult/complicated?
No, not at all. You will surprise how easy to wash and care for your cloth pads.

Rinse the blood with clean water. (You can do this during shower)
Soak with minimum use of detergent if there is any stain. You can soaked in overnight, just change the water daily.
Rinse again before wash using washing machine with extra rinse cycle (recommended)
Hang dry under the sun.

And that's it. It's simple. If you still have any stain on your pads, simply hang dry it under the sun and the stain will gone eventually. Sun is known as the natural bleach and bacteria killing agent.

How To Care For Your Cloth Pads?

To expand the life span of your cloth pads, please remember 1 simple rule.

Do not use any softener/whitener to wash your cloth pads as it will caused damage to the fabrics and reduce the absorbency of the pad.

History Of The Adjustable Elastic Diaper

In 1952 this snazzy new idea was first patented, a lady by the name of Heller Max thought of this amazing way to adjust the length of the elastic area making each size fit a bigger range of people. US Patent 1672017 shows the she invented button adjustments to fit securly unto a waist band to give the item an exact fit. This new way to adjust waists with an elastic strip secured by buttons was soon picked up by most major clothing companies and today we still use this idea focused especially now on children's apparel.

In early 2005 this now older idea became innovative when it was used in the cloth diaper industry. The company Mother's Eve was born and used the adjustable elastic idea to pull the rise of the diaper from bigger to small thus eliminating the adjustable snaps that clutter the front of the one size diaper. Although this diaper was a wonderful idea, it closed with a large piece of Velcro that some felt was bulky and unfortunately it fell by the way side.

To find the next adjustable elastic diaper you must follow me half way around the world We will land in New Zealand where Baby Cheeks has developed, marketed and now has a patent on the adjustable leg elastic diaper. As a side note Rocky Mountain Diaper will never be sold or marketed to anyone in New Zealand or Australia in respect of their patent. They are a beautiful diaper with very cute trim like none we have ever seen.

Back in the USA, this idea is now spreading farther, In 2006 a company called Precious Dignity put in adjustable legs in its Clover Fitted Diaper, the diaper adjusts using buttons hole elastic to fine tune the leg fit. It also is the first diaper to have a replaceable leg elastic capabilities. While some might be concerned about sewn on buttons, there is no need to worry about that, Clover has hidden the elastic adjustments into a secure compartment that has no access for children and can be replaced easily. They also have a almost unheard of warranty that will out last not only the diaper but will still be active when you child goes off to college. This is a diaper worth checking out!

Sarah Van Bogart of Soft Bums has been in the diaper making business for years now. She realized there was a real need for a diaper that fit all shapes. Discontinued - Panda Baby Nappy

Panda Baby Nappy are now on clearance. My Cheeky Boo is now clearing them at BELOW our COST PRICE.

Panda Baby Nappy was the first diaper brand that I bring in to My Cheeky Boo. But looking on I'm just a newbie in this business, I've got to admit that I lost in my very first gamble.

Basically, Panda Baby Nappy does not have any defect. But with the recommended retail price, I've got to admit, it wasnt worth it. In terms of functional, it is a functional nappy. So what goes wrong? With the material (bamboo cotton) and the price, it wasnt absorbent enough as it should be. But despite they are still made with imported quality fabrics and all sew by the owner itself, at the clearance price, they are still fine to be use compare to using disposable.

I doesnt hope that because of this, it affects My Cheeky Boo's image and also our business. Because I too work hard to bring in quality products in My Cheeky Boo. And being honest is what I want to practise in this business. And being a new WAHM, I could not afford to lose to much. So I choose to clear them below our cost price.

How much is our cost price? I paid them in full retail price, shipping, and tax! Everything cost me more than AUD450. So you can do the calculation. And with the cost this high, I cannot afford to carry them anymore. So hopefully with the new price at Rm45 below our cost price (40% off), they wont stay around for too long, please! And this sale price (Rm45) will valid until 20 Sept. After the mentioned date, price will be revise to Rm49.90 which is still below our cost price and still a great bargain! So hurry grab it now!

This layer usually consists of fabric that has a PUL (PolyUrethane Laminate) backing, polar fleece such as Windpro, or wool. These are the closest in similarity to disposable diapers since they are a one-piece diapering system. The absorbent soaker material is often sewn into the diaper; it may also be detachable.

AI2 - All-In-Two - AI2s are very similar to AIOs with the exception that the absorbent soaker material is not attached to the diaper in any way. The soaker is usually a second, separate piece that must be used in conjunction with the diaper. The drying time for these diapers is shorter than the traditional AIO.

Contour Diapers - Contours are hourglass shaped diapers with no elastic in the legs or back. They must be held together with a SNAPPI® Diaper Fastener, pins, or a diaper cover. These diapers are not waterproof, so a cover will be needed.

Diaper Covers - Covers come in many styles and shapes, but their function is to provide a waterproof outer layer for non-waterproof diapers (all except AIOs). They are often fitted with elastic and fasten with snaps or Velcro. Some covers pull-up, like underpants. Diaper covers are usually made from polyester, Polyurethane laminates (PUL), waterproof nylon, fleece or wool.

Doublers – Doublers are pad-like absorbent soakers that can be added to a diaper to increase absorbency. They are especially useful during times when you know extra protection is needed, perhaps at night time.

Flats - These one-layer diapers, generally made out of 100% cotton gauze, are the most "old-fashioned" choice. They dry quickly and fit a large range of sizes. Folding and pinning are required.

Fitted Diapers - Fitted diapers closely resemble disposable diapers. They are contoured and fitted with elastic around the legs and back. They fasten with Velcro or snaps, and a waterproof cover must be worn over them. They are the next step up from flat pre-fold diapers and much easier to use.

Hook & Loop - These are Velcro-like closures. Since the Velcro brand is not very soft, many diaper makers use Aplix or Touchtape brand hook and loop.

Liners - Liners are thin layers of cloth or paper that are placed inside the diaper to aid in the cleaning of solid waste. In the case of paper liners, the solid waste collected on the liner can be removed from the soiled diaper and either thrown away or flushed. Cloth liners must be washed, but aid in laundering. They also help protect the actual diaper from staining.

Longies - These are also called soaker pants or sweater pants. Longies are wool soakers that have longer legs to form pants. They are great for winter time.

Pre-folds - Pre-fold diapers are rectangular shaped diapers that must be folded into the shape of a diaper. They are similar to flats, but have multiple layers with more layering in the middle. They often have 2-4 layers of absorbent material on either side and 6-8 layers in the middle. The amount of layers varies according to the size you choose, generally ranging from preemie to toddler. You may see a pre-fold described as being 4x8x4. This describes how many layers there are in the outer and inner sections: 4 layers in both outer sections and 8 layers in the inner or middle section. Pre-folds are usually the cheapest type of cloth diapers available. They must be used in conjunction with a cover.

Pocket Diapers - Pocket diapers are like AIOs orAI2s. They have an outer layer of a waterproof material and an inner layer of a stay dry material, like microfleece or suedecloth. They close with Velcro or snaps. They have a pocket opening that allows for the absorbent material to be stuffed in the pocket during use and then removed for laundering. The absorbent material for stuffing can be an insert that comes with the diaper or a pre-fold or doubler. Some moms use terry wash cloths. Pocket diapers are a popular choice among cloth diapering moms because you can customize the amount of absorbent material.

Snappi® - A plastic mechanism that fastens a cloth diapers. These are often used instead of diaper pins.

Soaker Pants - See Longies

Soakers - The term soaker can be applied two ways. It often refers to the absorbent middle part of the diaper that absorbs the moisture when a baby wets. Soakers may be sewn inside the diaper, partially sewn to form a flap, snapped in inside the diaper, or simply laid inside the diaper. The term soaker is also used in reference to wool diaper covers.

Wool In One (WIO) - This is a All-In-One (AIO) but made with wool outer fabric.

Flat and Prefold Cloth Diapers

Flat cloth diapers are the classic cotton square which is folded to fit baby, and secured with diaper pins or a Snappi.

A variation of the flat diaper is the Prefold, which includes extra layering in the center.Flat and prefold diapers are the least expensive choice in cloth diapers, costing in the area of $15-$20 per dozen. These diapers require waterproof outer covers, so they are a three piece diapering system (diaper, cover, closure for diaper). Typically, these diapers are closed with either diaper pins or a Snappi. However, another option is to simply lay them in a wrap style cover and forgo the additional closure type.

Most of these diapers are made from birdseye or other gauzy fabrics. Some are made from velour or hemp. They are very absorbent, easy to clean, and quick to dry. Still widely used today, flat and prefold diapers are a very economical and simple choice for cloth diapering. But these cloth diapers have other uses as well. Fans of other diapering types often use flat or prefold diapers for doublers or pocket stuffers.For a little fun with prefold or flat diapers, look at the many dyed or embroidered options available on the market.

Advantages of Flat and/or Prefold Diapers:

Absorbent
Very economical
Easy to launder and fast to dry
Can be used as diapers, doublers, pocket stuffers, burp cloths, or even cleaning rags.
Available in lots of dyed colors, and can be embroidered very easily.

Disadvantages of Flat and or Prefold Diapers:

A cover is required to make the diaper function
Must take the time to fold
Not as convenient as an AIO
Hard to use on squirmy babies
Pins and/or a Snappi can be hard to use
Runny messes are harder to contain with these diapers

Pocket Diapers

Pocket diapers are exactly what they sound like. They are cloth diapers that have a pocket. Most generally they have two layers, an outer layer and an inner layer, with a hole or pocket that separate the two at one point, forming an opening for the absorbent material to be inserted. The absorbent material that is inserted into the pocket is what absorbs the moisture when baby relieves himself. It can be removed later for more effective cleaning. Many moms believe that pocket diapers are the most innovative invention in diapering ever.Pocket diapers can be two piece diapering systems with a waterproof outer layer that requires only a stuffer. They can also be a three piece diapering system with a non-waterproof outer layer that will require the use of a diaper cover.

Advantages of Pocket Diapers:

You decide what to "stuff" the pocket with...so you can find the right absorbency level
Easy to clean because they "come apart"
Can be very trim if absorbent stuffing is not bulky
Available in lots of cute colors and prints

Disadvantages of Pocket Diapers

A separate stuffer is required to make the diaper function
Can be bulky if to much stuffin' is inserted

AIO or All In One Cloth Diapers and AI2 Cloth Diapers

An AIO, or All-In-One, is exactly what it sounds like. What you get is what you need. It is a type of diaper that functions completely on its own without the need for extra accessories. It does not require separate soaker material to absorb nor a separate diaper cover to contain leaks. All of the features are neatly packaged into one diaper. Many parents find this type of diaper to be the height of convenience since all they need is in one place. It also saves on space when traveling.

Advantages of AIO Cloth Diapers:

Functions like a disposable, except you don't throw it away!
No separate cover required
No separate soaker or doubler required
Easy to use
Available in lots of cute colors and prints
Perferred by childcare givers

Disadvantages of AIO Cloth Diapers:

Longer drying times
Harder to clean effectively

If you like the sound of an AIO but worry about the longer drying and cleaning times, you may want to try an AI2. These diapers are All in Ones that allow for the removal of the inner soaker material, the part that absorbs. This makes cleaning and drying much faster. When the two separate parts are paired, they form one diaper.

Advantages of AI2 Cloth Diapers:

No separate cover required
Great for transitioning from disposables to cloth - easy to use
Available in lots of cute colors and prints
You can always get a new soaker or doubler if the original needs to be replaced

Disadvantages of AI2 Cloth Diapers:

Keeping soakers or doublers together with the rest of the diaper
Usually more expensive than other cloth diapering methods

Fitted Cloth Diapers

Fitted cloth diapers are the next step up in the evolution of the cloth diaper, after the simple flat diapers or prefold diapers that were the norm many years ago. Fitted diapers are exactly what they sound like. Instead of the flat and shapeless diapers our parents may have used, fitted diapers are fitted and snug, usually with elastic gatherings in the legs and waist. This makes them a perfect fit for any baby. They usually have closures of some sort as well, either hook and loop (Velcro) or snaps.

Fitted diapers are not waterproof so you do need a diaper cover to put over them. But they are very easy to put on a baby and very easy to put under a cover without uncomfortable bunching. Some fitted diapers have also been known to contain a pocket for stuffing (see pocket diapers).Fitted diapers come in a variety of materials. Some of the most popular choices are cotton knits, flannel, hemp, terry cloth, sherpa, bamboo, and velour.

Advantages of Fitted Diapers:

Fitted and snug for a good fit on baby and under diaper covers
Can be washed at high temperatures, separate from covers
Easy to clean
Can be very trim for day use or bulkier for nighttime use...your choice \
Available in lots of cute colors and prints

Disadvantages of Fitted Diapers:

A cover is required to make the diaper function
Not as convenient as an

Why Use Cloth Diapers?

Cloth diapers nowadays arent the same as the one we have before. With the modern fabrics available nowadays, cloth diapers are not only pretty on the look, but defenitely functional.

A most common question that might goes through your head when you are first introduced to cloth diapers, isnt it? Most of you might thought why should we use cloth diapers when we have the disposable that is so convenient (wear and dumb) and less hassle?

Well, there are a lots of great reasons why you should use modern cloth diapers for your babies.

Save Money/Cost Effective

What we as parents most concern while at the same time we try to give our best to our child is money issues. So when we say by using cloth diapers you can save more (lots!) in a long term compare using disposable, of course many of you wonder, how and how much you can really save by using cloth diapers.

How?

Generally cloth diapers are made by cloth, therefore, they are washable and reusable. By mean, they can be use over and over again. And some of them can even be use from new born to potty train. So when you choose to use cloth diapers, you only have to pay for the first baby's diaper money, cause they can be pass down to your next baby. So it's always good and defenitely save more to resue than buy new, isnt it?

How much?

We take an example for 1 baby. New born baby (0-3 months) will need at least 8 - 10 diapers per day as they pee and poo frequently. And average a disposable diaper will cost, lets say around Rm0.60 per piece (or more). The calcualtion goes like this :

8 pcs x 30 days x 3 months x Rm.60 = Rm432

So for the first 3 months, you will have to spend Rm432 for diapers.

On month 4 - 6, baby will starts to poo less frequent, and so the usage for diapers might be reduce to 6 - 10 diapers per day. But this depends on the baby.

6 pcs x 30 days x 3 months x Rm0.60 = Rm324

You've spent another Rm324 for disposable diapers.

Come to the last stage, where most baby from 6 month to potty training stage (3 years) will use around 5 or more diapers per day.

5 pcs x 30 days x 30 months x Rm0.60 = Rm2700

So for 1 child, parents will have to spend around Rm3456 on diapers only until the baby is potty trained! And the cost is only for 1 child. So you have more than 1 kid, the cost will be doubled and tripled. And come to think about it, the money you spend goes no where but the trash can! Oh, and the cost does not include rash cream, disposable wipes.

Healthier For Baby and Safe To Be Next On Baby's Skin

Cloth diapers are made with all natural fabrics, hence they dont contain any chemical (YES! Chemical Free) toxic like DIOXIN in disposable diapers. Dioxin are known as 1 of the most toxic chemical that can cause to severe decease e.g skin damage, cancers, birth defects etc. Disposable diapers contain Tributyl-tin (TBT) - a toxic pollutant known to cause hormonal problems in humans and animals. Disposable diapers also contain sodium polyacrylate. If you have ever seen the gel-like, super absorbant crystals in a disposable than you have seen this first hand. Sodium polyacrylate is the same substance that was removed from tampons because of its link to toxic shock syndrome. So with cloth diapers, your baby's delicate skin is safe from the chemicals.

Environment Friendly

Honestly, how many of you would have think about the environment when using products that is non biodegradable? But day by day, as the world changed, (global warming etc), we know we have to do something to save our earth. So do you know that when you using cloth diapers on your babies, you are actually contributing in helping to save the earth.

How? Most disposable diapers are non biodegradable and will take around 500 years to decompose. So when you choose to use cloth diapers, at least they are not ended up on the land fill and your money worth every cents of it.

Make Potty Training Easier

Becase cloth diapers are made with chemical free natural fibre, therefore, in some stage, they might not as absorbent as compare to disposable because cloth diapers does not mask the sensation of wetness. And this could be good when it comes to potty train stage. It is believed when children actually feel they are wet, they can better grasp the concept of potty-training. Diapering a child for only a year and a half to two years instead of three or more offers additional financial savings and further reduces environmental burdens.

As Convenient As Disposable Diapers

Modern cloth diapers nowadays are running close second in convenient as compare to disposable diapers. For example, cloth diapers that comes in velcro closure are easy to use, they are design to function just like disposable. Easy on and off on baby. Also All-In-One (AIO) that skips the insert stuffing process like pocket diapers. They acting like disposable, but wash like cloth.

Bye Bye Rash

Baby's skin is sensitive and delicate, so most common reason that can caused rashes when they use disposable is the chemical toxic in it. When using cloth diapers, rash is rarely a problem as they are chemical free. But babies that have rashes when using cloth diapers might be caused by skin allergy towards the fabric of the diaper

Resale Value

This is what disposable cannot give. Modern cloth diapers have a great resale value when you take care of them in the proper way. Most cloth diapering parents found that the initial cost to starts cloth diapering is rather high, so it is good that when you can get some second hand/gently used diapers as start up. In another mean, you can always resale your diapers when your baby no longer wear them or outgrow them. In that way, you actually save even more!

Modern cloth diaper is like a fashion statment because comes in ranges of colours and prints that can match with every outfit of your baby and definitely makes your baby’s bum an outstanding one! ;P

Q : What fabrics/materials do you use to make your nappies?

A: Each "Panda Day" nappy comprises of:

Microfleece, Fluffy Fleece or quilters cotton outer (covering)

4 layers of organic bamboo, sewn inside

A lay-in booster made from fleece covering microfibre

Adjustable front snaps to suit most babies

Flannelette, cotton velour or microfleece inner

Soft, good quality elastic in the legs and back for better fitting and no leakage

A layer of breathable waterproofing (Polyurethane laminate (or "PUL") is generally a Polyester interlock knit fabric that has been laminated to a thin film of Polyurethane.

Sizing
Q : What sizes do you make your nappies?

A: OSMF (One Size Fits Most) - 6kg - 12kg - rise of approx 48cm - this size is really a cross between medium and large. If you have a chubby baby - I recommend size Large :)

I should note that I have also made the tabs longer (around the back) for an even better fit :) OSFM may have extra snaps for a better fitting.

It is important to get the correct measurement of your baby to get the right size.

You can measure the rise by either measuring a nappy (that already fits your baby) from top to bottom (stretched out) OR by getting a tape measure and measuring your baby naked (loosely - not tight) from the belly button, under the crotch and up to where the belly button would sit if it was on the baby's back.

Common Sling Problems and Tips for Comfort

Found an article about babywearing by Jennifer Norton. I found it very useful and it's good as guide.

If you are finding your sling uncomfortable or tiring, it's worth checking that you have it fitted as well as it can be. Having an experienced sling user to help you in person is ideal. As a second best, below you will find some tips that might help.
All tips are relevant for slings.
Tips marked * are also relevant for pouches.

For all carries

(pictures on the left hand side show the wrong way of wearing slings, and right hand side is the recommended)

Ring position

Most people find it comfortable to wear the rings quite high, on or just below the collarbone. (If you like them lower, that's fine too, but keep in mind that the 'pouch' where the baby sits will be smaller.) For the sling on the right, this is a comfortable ring position. With some slings, the rings can be worn even higher

Shoulder 1 *
The goal is to spread the weight evenly across the shoulder, whether you like the shoulder spread down onto your upper arm or not.

Shoulder 2 *
If the shoulder is padded (or you like your unpadded shoulder unfanned), centre it on your shoulder rather than letting it crowd your neck. This is even more crucial for hip carries, where your baby's weight will tend to pull the sling against your neck.

Back *
Spread the back of the sling as widely as possible. The more you spread it, the less strain you will feel. Spreading it as low as possible is the key - even a small amount can make a lot of difference to your comfort. If you pull your sling down at the back, in conjunction with moving it away from your neck, you should notice a definite improvement.
This sling can be spread very wide!

Height of baby *
Most people find they are most comfortable with the baby riding as high as possible

Top rail *
The top rail (top edge of the sling) needs to be snug to stop the baby from leaning back, which can be unsafe and is tiring for you. Tighten it by pulling on the top edge of the tail.

Baby's leg position *
Once your baby is old enough to want her legs out of the sling, they should be wrapped around you (like straddling a horse), and not dangling down. It's safer, better for your baby's hip development, and more comfortable for you.
Note. In the photo on the right, the edges of the shoulder have been folded to the centre to allow a bit more arm movement. This can be useful with a "fan" style shoulder.

Baby's leg angle *
Baby's legs should be approximately parallel to the floor, with her bottom at the same level as (or lower than) the underside of her knees. This keeps her safely in the sling and reduces red marks. Pull the fabric (the bottom rail) down to her knees, make sure it isn't bunched up, and then tighten snugly. If there's lots of fabric, bunch it or tuck it behind her back, rather than under her legs.

If your sling is padded and you cannot get the baby high enough or snug enough then you need a smaller sling. You can also try removing some of the padding near the tail, allowing you to pull more fabric through the rings.

Likewise, if your pouch is unable to accommodate the appropriate position, it is not the right size for you. The only way to adjust a pouch further is with a sewing machine. So, if you find it tiring or uncomfortable, ask if you can exchange it.

Once you are comfortable wearing your sling or pouch, regular stretching can help you to stay comfortable. When carrying a baby, it's common to hunch your shoulders forward. Regularly stretch your upper back (gently backwards) and roll your shoulders. Try to be aware of your posture when you carry your baby and keep your back straight and bottom tucked in.

Changing position (you and your baby!) every so often will reduce fatigue and is especially important while you are first getting used to your sling. Physical therapists also advise swapping shoulders regularly, both for your sake and your baby's. The sooner you get used to using both shoulders, the more likely you are to find both sides comfortable.

Sometimes it's your back, rather than the sling (or the adjustment of the sling) that is the problem. If you still have pain after trying these tips, it could be worth seeing a chiropractor, osteopath or physical therapist.

The very First Post.. The Journey with Cloth Diapers

This is the very first post after My Cheeky Boo is launched for almost 2 weeks. I've created this blog way before my e-store was launched, but doesnt get the time to manage this blog. But I do feel that having an individual blog for my e-store is neccesary so that I can post any updates, sales or promotions of my store here rather at my personal blog which is just not right.

So here we go, a new blog for my store. Should I started with some self intro? Oh well, basically I started my WAHM dream soon as I became a cloth diaper addict, ;P . I cant express any further how much I love cloth diapering. It is a passion I guess? I'm very glad to being explore with the new and modern cloth diapering world though I dint started early with Wawa, but only when he is around 8 months old. But it's never too late right?

Started off with 8 cloth diapers and a Wahmies All Day Wetbag that purchased in 3 months time, which consist Drybees pocket and AIO, also Bumgenius One Size. Everything was confusing since I'm new during that time. But after some reading and also learning from the very 1st cloth diapering sifu. Everything became much easier. From the terms of cloth diapers - AIO (all-in-one), OS (onesize), CD (cloth diaper), to the different system (pocket, AIO, AI2, Fitted, Cover) and to wash and care. It is easy than you can think. I began to enjoy with this new addiction. :)

Slowly add up my stash, searching for more different brand to try. It is well said that there is no perfect cloth diaper system for a baby unless you tried it, cause each baby are born with different built. So there goes a very good excuse to shopping. :D

Wawa is now almost 26 months, so meaning I've been cloth diapering him for a good 18 months. Past 18 months, can you imagine how much I save on financial? And saving the environment with less disposable ended up in th land fill? It might be small a contribution to the earth, but no matter how small it is, it is COUNT.

So here I am with some experience and passionate on cloth diapering, and here born my dream - My Cheeky Boo. I hope and I want to be part of those who care for the earth and spread the goodness of cloth diapers with others. As well as share/discuss anything about cloth diapers.
